Publishing Industries (except internet) is a sub-sector of the broader Information Industry in Minnesota. Overall, Publishing Industries makes up 38.5 percent of the total jobs in Information, and these jobs are among 1,139 establishments in the state. Publishing Industries is made up of two smaller industries: Newspaper, Periodical, Book, and Directory Publishers (11,357 jobs at 581 establishments) as well as Software Publishers (8,131 jobs at 558 establishments) (see Table 1).

Publishing Industries makes up 42.1 percent of the total Information payroll in the state. Average annual wages in the Publishing Industries rest at $88,920, which is 49.1 percent higher than the average annual wages across all industries and 9.1 percent higher than the average annual wage in the broader Information industry sector. Over the last decade the average annual wages in Publishing Industries grew by $23,712, equaling growth of 36.4 percent.
While the number of jobs across all industries enjoyed a rather steady increase over the last 10 years, the number of jobs in Publishing Industries (except internet) experienced a pretty consistent decline in number of jobs from 2009 to 2016, at which time the job trends began to stabilize. Overall, the number of jobs in Publishing Industries (except information) has declined by 3,178 jobs over the last decade, a drop of 14 percent (see Figure 1).
Real Estate is part of the Real Estate and Rental and Leasing industry and makes up almost 80 percent (79.7 percent) of that industry, with 28,367 jobs at 5,526 establishments in Minnesota. Real Estate is made up of three smaller industries, with the largest number of jobs falling under Activities Related to Real Estate, which accounts for 15,393 jobs or 54.3 percent. The remaining two areas in Real Estate are Lessors of Real Estate (8,422 jobs) and Offices of Real Estate Agents and Brokers (4,552 jobs) (see Table 1).

Also included in Table 1, median annual wages in Real Estate sit at $52,624, which is just over $7,000 (11.8 percent) less than the average annual wages across all industries. The highest paying sub-sector was Offices of Real Estate Agents and Brokers where the median annual wage rested at $62,296, which was $9,672 (18.4 percent) higher than the average wages seen in the broader Real Estate sector and 4.4 percent higher than the average wages seen across all industries. Over the last decade the wages in Real Estate have increased by 20.2 percent, equaling $8,840 more.
While the number of jobs across all industries saw a rather consistent increase over the last 10 years, the number of jobs in Real Estate had a series of ups and downs. From 2009 to 2013 the number of jobs in Real Estate saw steady increases, peaking in 2013. Then from 2013 to 2016 the number of jobs saw an general decline before seeing increases again from 2016 to 2019. Overall, the number of jobs in Real Estate increase by 832 jobs or 3 percent increase (see Figure 1).
Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services makes up 5.5 percent of the total jobs across all industries, equaling 160,267 jobs in the State of Minnesota. The largest number of jobs are found in Computer Systems Design and Related Services (36,474 jobs), Management, Scientific, and Technical Consulting Services (31,025 jobs), and Architectural, Engineering and Related Services (24,247 jobs). Together, these three make up 57.2 percent of the jobs in Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services. This industry also includes of Legal Services (17,862 jobs), Accounting, Tax Preparation, Bookkeeping, and Payroll Services (15,820 jobs), Specialized Design Services (1,906 jobs), Scientific Research and Development Services (7,083 jobs), Advertising and Related Services (11,739 jobs), and Other Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services (14,111 jobs) (see Table 1).

Also shown in Table 1, the average annual wage for Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services jobs is $97,708, compared to $59,644 across all industries. That is 63.8 percent higher. The highest average annual wages were seen in Scientific Research and Development Services ($126,516), Computer Systems Design and Related Services ($114,244), Management, Scientific, and Technical Consulting Services ($112,580), and Legal Services ($103,532). Over the last decade the average annual wages in Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services jumped by $25,584 or 35.5 percent.
Despite seeing a decline of 1,286 jobs from 2009 to 2010 and another loss of 3,186 jobs over the last year, the number of jobs in the Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services industry has seen an overall increase over the last decade. The number of jobs in this industry increased by almost 34,200 jobs over the last 10 years, an increase of 27.1 percent. Comparatively, the number of jobs across all industries rose by 12.7 percent (327,848 jobs) over the last 10 years (see Figure 1).
Religious, Grantmaking, Civic, Professional, and Similar Organizations makes up 1.2 percent of the total jobs across all industries in the State of Minnesota. The largest number of jobs are found in Civic and Social Organizations (16,078 jobs), which makes up 46.3 percent of the total jobs in the industry. Business, Professional, Labor, Political, and Similar Organizations adds an additional 7,922 jobs while Social Advocacy Organizations adds 5,353 jobs. Together, these three make up almost 85 percent of the total jobs in the Religious, Grantmaking, Civic, Professional, and Similar Organizations industry. This industry also includes Religious Organizations (2,708 jobs) and Grantmaking and Giving Services (2,645 jobs) (see Table 1).

Also shown in Table 1, the average annual wage for in the Religious, Grantmaking, Civic, Professional, and Similar Organizations industry was $35,100, which is 41.2 percent less than the annual wages seen across all industries. The highest annual wages, however, were seen in Grantmaking and Giving Services at $73,372, which was $13,728 (23 percent) higher than those across all industries. Over the last decade the average annual wages in the Religious, Grantmaking, Civic, Professional, and Similar Organizations industry increased by almost $10,200 or 40.9 percent.
Despite seeing some annual declines over the last 10 years, overall the number of jobs in the Religious, Grantmaking, Civic, Professional, and Similar Organizations industry saw an increase. The total number of jobs in this industry increased by 1,477 jobs, equaling a jump of 4.4 percent, from 2009 to 2019. Comparatively, the number of jobs across all industries saw an increase of 327,848 jobs or 12.7 percent (see Figure 1).
