  • The Reader's Digest Bible condensed from the Revised Standard Version Old Testament. Bruce Manning Metzger. Audio, Braille. Condensation achieved largely by elimination of repetitious passages and genealogies. The text is designed to offer a flowing, easily read narrative of the scriptures.
  • The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments: Translated out of the Original Tongues and with the Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised. Audio. The King James Version of the Old and New Testaments as read by Alexander Scourby in the early 1950s. For advanced players, this cartridge has three navigation levels. Old and New Testaments also available separately.
  • Pure Voice Audio Bible: New International Version (NIV) complete Bible. Audio. An evangelical translation of the Bible made directly from Greek texts. Written in contemporary English.
  • The Jerusalem Bible. Audio. Modern, readable version of the Bible created during the time of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) and intended mainly for Catholics. Translated from original ancient texts by biblical scholars utilizing mid-twentieth-century archaeological discoveries. Contains Old and New Testaments, the Apocrypha, and brief introductions on each book's historical setting.
  • Sagrada Biblia: version directa de las lenguas originales. Audio (Spanish). El Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento en una version traducida directamente del original en hebreo y griego por Eloino Nacar Fuster y Alberto Colunga. The Old and New Testaments translated into Spanish from the original Hebrew and Greek.
  • The Great Code: The Bible and literature. Northrop Frye. Audio, Braille. A professor of English literature examines the Old and New Testaments as repositories of myth and metaphor and shows how this basic knowledge can enhance the reading of Western literature. He discusses the language people use in talking about the Bible and emphasizes its structural unity.
  • The Murderous History of Bible Translations: power, conflict and the quest for meaning. Harry Freedman. Audio. History of translations of the Bible, from its first versions in ancient Alexandria, beginning with the Hebrew Bible into Greek in the third century BCE. Discusses challenges to interpretations; violent disagreements, often leading to death, from the Middle Ages to the Reformation; the spread into colonial territories; and more.
  • A History of the Bible: the story of the world's most influential book. John Barton. Audio. Anglican priest presents a history of the Bible's creation and provides context for the works included in it. Sections include the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Bible as a whole, and the meanings of the work. Examines its importance to the Jewish and Christian faiths.
  • How to Read the Bible. Harvey Cox. Audio, Braille. Cox, professor at Harvard Divinity School and author of Many Mansions (DB 29948), posits a need for a unified reading approach between lay people and scholars of the Bible. Examines the reading experience as three stages: narrative or literal, historical, and spiritual, and offers ways to reconcile those stages.
  • Great Stories of the Bible. Braille. Collection of six books containing stories from the Old and New Testaments. Includes God's Great Creation, Facing the Blazing Furnace, Ruth and Naomi, Miracles of Jesus, A Father's Love, and The Good Samaritan. For grades 2-4.
  • Bible Babel: making sense of the most talked about book of all times. Kristin M. Swenson. Audio. Based on the most recent scholarship, an introduction to the Bible--what it is, where it comes from, and what is in it--answers common questions and identifies and explains cultural references.
  • Learn-to-Read Bible. Heather Gemmen Wilson and Peggy M Wilber. Braille. A collection of Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments, accompanied by activities and reading tips.
