Several organizations offer programs to provide blind, DeafBlind or low vision students with the skills, confidence, and experience needed to succeed in life and work.
In addition to summertime programs, these organizations offer experience-based programming that runs throughout the school year.
Families of SSB customers (or young adult SSB customers themselves) can receive information and support about special education, transition planning, and related topics by contacting PACER. Their contact number is 800-537-2237. Depending on the question, they will be routed to an appropriate PACER special education or transition advocate. If they have a question related to assistive technology, they will be routed to the Simon Technology Center. PACER has staff who speak English, Spanish, Somali, and Hmong. Families will be notified of upcoming specialized workshops once they are scheduled. Additionally, PACER will be seeking feedback from families through listening sessions and a survey.
SSB has partnered with PACER to create helpful videos, presentations and handouts for families. Learn more about these resources.
