For the past couple of years I’ve worked with the Walgreen’s REDI program to train individuals in our retail operations at the store level. It has worked well and it’s been very rewarding to see individuals who have possibly not worked before go from being very nervous to being totally independent.
The REDI program has recently ended but we still conduct some store training opportunities. In the past couple of years we’ve hired many individuals, probably in the range of 15-19 people. Some employees have stayed at this store but often they will begin working at a Walgreens store closer to their home once they are independent. We encourage this and want what is best for them.
Everyone knows how hard it is to hire for retail right now. This training program has been a big success, and when the individuals are hired it saves us money. One of the other positives I’ve noticed is that the individuals add value to our team. It has brought our employees closer together and created more of a family atmosphere.
