St. Paul – The Minnesota Trade Office (MTO) at the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is accepting nominations for the 38th Annual Governor's International Trade Awards.
These prestigious awards honor Minnesota companies that have shown exceptional growth and success in foreign markets. In addition to honoring individual recipients, the award recognizes the tremendous positive impact that exports and trade have on the state's overall economy.
"It's important to celebrate all that international trade brings to Minnesota. Exports are a critical part of our state's economy, both now and into the future," said Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. "Diversified global trade helps ensure our economy remains strong, and it positions us for future growth by showcasing our innovation on the global stage."
"Minnesota exports of agricultural, mining and manufactured products reached a record high of $27 billion in 2022. Our manufacturers are well-positioned in international markets and contribute strongly to resilience in Minnesota's economy while also providing job opportunities around the state," said temporary DEED Commissioner Kevin McKinnon. "We will continue to focus on our efforts to bring Minnesota companies and goods to the international marketplace."
"Minnesota is a powerhouse in agriculture, ranking #4 in the U.S. when it comes to agricultural products and commodities like pork, soybeans and corn," said Department of Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen. "We want to recognize Minnesota ag exporters as they feed the world and boost our state's economy."
"The state's exports soared in 2022, and we are thrilled to once again open nominations to celebrate the success of Minnesota exporters," said MTO Executive Director Gabrielle Gerbaud. "We look forward to honoring the outstanding work and accomplishments of the award recipients later this year."
Nominations for the Governor's International Trade Awards will be accepted until Friday, July 7, 2023. Recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony to be scheduled toward the end of this year.
Additional information, as well as nomination instructions, can be found on the DEED website.
